Dear Governor . . . (part 5),

Over the next several days, we will be posting letters written by early childhood education supporters in response to our August 26th post. We hope that Governor Perdue is listening.

Governor Perdue,

There is no need for me to be long winded, so I will not. The concept is simply this. We cannot continue to administer cuts to those programs and services that benefit the children of this great state if we expect any kind of future for the state. We must invest in the education and well being of our children and families with children. If we do not, we have basically given up the game to our opponent with time still on the clock. How can we expect a bright future for this state if we handicap the people that we are depending on to create this future, our children? If you invest in them, beginning with a healthy birth, you increase their chances of success. The opposite is what you get if you don’t.

My request to you is to “Save Our Seed Corn”. No more cuts to Smart Start and Education.

Harold G. Sellars
Senior Vice President
M&F Bank

Mr. Sellars also is a member of the Board of Directors of The North Carolina Partnership for Children, Inc.
